Dennis Weaver, M.D., MBA, is a National Partner and Chief Medical Officer of Advisory Board Consulting and Solutions. He leads an enterprise-wide team focused on critical health care issues, including reducing unwarranted clinical variation and accountable payment, value-based care, and physician alignment models. In his work with Advisory Board Solutions, Dennis provides customized, holistic, transformational solutions focused on large-scale return on investment for our health system partners.
Dennis and his team work with hospitals, health systems, payers, governments, and employers to improve the quality, patient experience, and cost effectiveness of health care. His specific areas of expertise include developing clinical variation reduction and value-based care models, optimizing accountable payment, and leveraging innovative technology solutions. In this role, he is responsible for redesigning methods of care delivery based upon novel care delivery and care management systems across the full continuum of care. His passion is to fulfill the Quadruple Aim—improving patient experience of care, improving the health of populations, improving the work life of clinicians and staff, and reducing the per capita cost of health care.
Most notably, Dennis led a transformation effort of one of the largest health care providers in the Midwest into an integrated, regional health care system, comprising 23 hospitals in seven markets, more than 450 locations, and 6,500 employed or affiliated physicians. His team established a CIN of tightly aligned physicians prepared to manage population health; implemented a Hospital Efficiency Improvement Program to standardize clinical practice and manage quality and cost; and provided the system with centralized information technology, care management resources, support and coordination needed to improve health outcomes. The first year of the partnership resulted in $21 million in realized improvements, with $58 million in projected gains in hospital efficiency over three years. Furthering the system’s strategic vision, 5,600 providers are now affiliated, 1,250 providers are now employed, and more than 150,000 lives are now managed through MSSP and other risk-based contracts.
Dennis has received numerous awards and honors for his work in clinical medicine, medical management, and technology integration. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. Dennis earned his Master of Business Administration from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis and is a Distinguished Graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
