About Brad

Brad Howard, M.D., MBA, is executive medical director at Clinovations, a division of Advisory Board Consulting, where he oversees the Optimization Service Line. Brad has more than ten years of experience implementing and optimizing Epic EHR platforms in large, complex health systems. His optimization work is specifically focused on creating physician efficiency, driving care improvement, and enhancing operational performance. Specifically, he led efforts that demonstrated 30-60 minutes of physician time saved per day.

Prior to joining Clinovations, Brad was system vice president and chief medical information officer (CMIO) for Presence Health in Chicago. At Presence he led the implementation and optimization of multiple EHR platforms, both in the inpatient and ambulatory settings, to achieve and supersede Meaningful Use standards and enhance clinical transformation. As a direct result of those efforts, Consumer Reports named four Presence Health hospitals as the safest in Chicago and among the safest in the country. Brad was also a key resource in the creation of an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and Clinically Integrated Network (CIN). He founded Foothills Emergency Medicine and served as president for 15 years. Throughout his extensive career, Brad has served as a regional Chief Medical Officer (CMO), regional CMIO, hospital medical staff vice president, and emergency department medical director. Brad is recognized as a physician leader who has held and excelled at multiple levels of health system clinical leadership.

Brad received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Emory University in Atlanta and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, graduating with Cum Laude honors. He received a Masters of Biomedical and Clinical Informatics from Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.
