The MCO's guide to 4 trends shaping the future of Medicaid RFPs

Winning bids is essential for Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), and understanding the emerging trends in Medicaid requests for proposal (RFPs) is key to success. Four priorities are shaping the future of RFPs: health equity, behavioral health, population health, and social determinants of health (SDOH). Learn how MCOs can strategically plan and document their approaches to win RFP bids.

The core RFP competencies remain critical

Why winning bids is important

Most states send out RFPs that Medicaid MCOs must complete to win Medicaid bids. Winning or losing a bid determines if plans get to operate a Medicaid business in that state until the next bid, usually in three to five years. Not all plans have the same level of risk going into bids. National plans, or plans in multiple lines of business, are insulated (to a degree) if they lose a bid, while smaller Medicaid plans may need to win their bid to maintain operational status.
