Overview
This audit helps unit leaders assess how prepared their units are for placement of new graduate RNs. Three emerging challenges during Covid-19 have made onboarding new graduate RNs increasingly difficult without adding additional stressors to units and incumbent staff. First, many nursing students have missed critical clinical rotations and are entering the workforce with less preparation. Second, patient acuity has increased in recent years and Covid-19 has sped up this upward trend. Third, organizations are already struggling with a variety of workforce challenges including burnout and staffing during a pandemic.
