Fortune: The best places for women to work in healthcare

Fortune and Great Place to Work on Thursday released their lists of the "100 Best Large Workplaces for Women" and the "50 Best Small and Medium Workplaces for Women," recognizing 28 organizations in the healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries.

Methodology

For the lists, Fortune partnered with Great Place to Work to survey companies that, at minimum, are Great Place to Work-certified and have 50 female employees in the United States. In addition, eligible companies must have at least 20% of non-executive management be women and at least one C-Suite executive who is a woman.

The survey asked employees to share confidential quantitative and qualitative feedback about their organization's culture by responding to 60 statements on a five-point scale and answering two open-ended questions.

The survey included statements about whether leaders are accessible, communicate honestly and clearly, and if their actions match their words, as well as whether the respondents felt they receive training benefits, appreciation, support for their well-being, and opportunities to contribute. The survey also asked respondents how they felt about the company's fairness related to pay, profits, promotions, recognition, favoritism, and opportunities.

Companies with 50 to 999 people were considered for the small and medium category, while companies with 1,000 employees or more were considered for the large category.

According to Fortune, of the nearly 1.3 million survey responses received, almost 600,000 were received from female employees at companies eligible for the 2024 lists.
