Recent utilization spikes and growing drug costs have challenged health plans’ ability to manage clinical costs. To better understand how health plan leaders are responding, Advisory Board interviewed dozens of health plan chief medical officers and clinical leaders about the initiatives underway at their organizations. Health plans leaders consistently articulated a set of 12 strategies being leveraged at their organizations. We then asked the leaders to map those strategies to the matrix below, reflecting resource intensity, impact, and timeline.
