  • Array Architects: Array Architects and Nemours / Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children used a Process-led design approach to rapidly define and design a new, fully integrated multi-specialty outpatient center which features flexible provider clinics, physical therapy, diagnostic imaging, wellness, and ambulatory surgery.   • Ballinger: For the Golisano Children's Hospital, designed by Ballinger, the pediatric patient experience was the primary focus of every design element. To promote healing, Ballinger injected play into the patient environment through therapeutic play areas, respite spaces, comprehensive theming, and well-defined on-stage / off-stage circulation.   • BSA LifeStructures: The expansion and renovation of the Intensive Care Nursery at Children's Mercy Hospital offer patients and families a wide range of private, semi-private, and open bay concepts to promote healing. Designed by BSA LifeStructures, creative floor patterns and decorative glass assist with wayfinding while also establishing a therapeutic atmosphere.   • FKP | CannonDesign: Dayton Children's Hospital's campus renewal is aimed at community health and neighborhood revitalization. Designed by FKP | CannonDesign, the new eight-story bed tower provides shell space for phased implementation of a new NICU Hematology/Oncology center, food service and kitchen, and a welcoming public lobby with improved wayfinding.   • Devenney Group Ltd., Architects: Devenney Group Ltd., Architects' seven-story addition to Medical City Children's Hospital ties into the existing North Tower and adds 61 beds, including a Congenital Heart Surgery unit. A four-story atrium filled with color, imagination, and a healing garden provides a new identity to this children's hospital and designates the new entrance while consolidating both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patient access.   • ERDMAN: For the new Children's Surgical Center at UF Health Shands Hospital, ERDMAN incorporated a nautical-themed décor that is inviting and comforting to children faced with surgery. The Center offers enhanced efficiency and easy accessibility for patients and their families, including separate preoperative, post-anesthesia care, and postoperative recovery areas. (© 2016 ERDMAN)

  • EYP, Inc.: At the 195-bed Children's Hospital of San Antonio, EYP transformed an adult and pediatric facility into a tranquil healing environment for children, full of sculptural spaces and colorful design elements rooted in San Antonio's culture, history, and landscape.   • HDR: The 340,000 SF expansion of Batson Children's Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center will be transformative for pediatric health care in the state of Mississippi. HDR incorporated entirely new imaging and surgical platforms, a 32-bed PICU, an 88-bed NICU, and three floors of ambulatory outpatient clinics, which will provide families with a state-of-the-art environment of care.   • IKM Architecture: In an effort to consolidate multiple outpatient services in Pittsburgh's southern neighborhoods, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh retained IKM to design a new four-story, outpatient care facility that creates a singular image for the region's children's hospitals. Public spaces and waiting areas are organized along the angular front of the building with generous expanses of glass providing natural daylight and views with clinical spaces organized efficiently in the rectangular building mass behind. The project consolidates a full spectrum of pediatric outpatient services into one facility including clinical spaces for General Medicine, Express Care, Neurology, ENT, Speech Therapy, Behavioral Health, Physical and Occupational Therapy and Radiology, and room for future growth.   • JE Dunn: JE Dunn completed a renovation to HCA Wesley Medical Center's pediatric areas, which included the addition of fifteen private rooms, as well as a renovated entrance, lobby, and elevators. The pediatric unit also received aesthetic upgrades and improvements to its HVAC system. The façade upgrades included new windows, aluminum fins, and lighting.   • NBBJ: Designed by NBBJ, the Big Lots Behavioral Health Pavilion at Nationwide Children's Hospital will be the largest free-standing pediatric behavioral health facility in the U.S. when it opens in 2020. Working to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health care, the facility draws on the positive impacts of nature and community-focused spaces to help teens, children, and families heal and thrive.   • Perkins+Will: Perkins+Will's transformative addition to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford provides an immersive nature experience for children, families, and staff. The addition includes extensive outdoor gardens, patient room planters, and nursing unit terraces to accompany 200 single pediatric acute/critical care rooms and expanded surgical and interventional platforms.   • Shepley Bulfinch: The new Critical Care Tower at Children's Hospital of Michigan better serves patients and families in private rooms within several improved key clinical areas.   • The S/L/A/M Collaborative: Designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative, the 311,000 SF Shriners Orthopedic Hospital for Children houses 80 inpatient beds and offers full orthopedic services including a surgical suite with four operating rooms, imaging services, extensive inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation, and an orthotics production unit.   • SmithGroupJJR: The new 51,500 SF Specialty Care Center at Valley Children's Healthcare is designed to communicate one simple principle: fun is the best medicine. Using architectural design to redefine what is expected from a traditional medical office building, the new center, designed by SmithGroupJJR, will be used as a model for future centers distributed in each community.   • TMPartners: The new Pediatric Emergency Department at Brandon Regional Hospital creates a comfortable environment for patients and visitors while still capitalizing on staff efficiencies.   • TreanorHL: Designed by TreanorHL in association with ZGF, the East Tower of Children's Hospital Colorado connects physically and visually to the existing facility. The Tower provides multidisciplinary care for mothers, babies, and families.
