Hospital Discharge Strategy During Covid-19

Post-acute utilization has come under increasing scrutiny across the past several years by Medicare, commercial payers, and health systems. The decision of where to send a patient after discharge from the hospital, and how long they stay, impacts overall cost of care, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought further scrutiny to post-acute utilization, fundamentally changing the discharge planning process and the structure of the post-acute continuum. As a result, health systems need to rethink their hospital-topost-acute discharge strategy, both during the immediate crisis and beyond.
