Healthgrades on Tuesday released its annual "America's Best Hospitals Awards," which recognizes the 250 top hospitals in the country.

About the list

The America's Best Hospitals list encompasses three awards:

• America's 250 Best Hospitals, which represent the top 5% of hospitals in the United States
• America's 100 Best Hospitals, which represent the top 2% of hospitals in the United States
• America's 50 Best Hospitals, which represent the top 1% of hospitals in the United States

To determine the winners, Healthgrades used Medicare data from 2020-2022 to evaluate roughly 4,500 hospitals on how well they performed in 31 of the most common procedures and conditions, including heart attack, pneumonia, and sepsis.

"Hospital quality is a crucial, yet often overlooked, factor to consider when choosing a doctor," said Brad Bowman, CMO and head of data science at Healthgrades. "Healthgrades is dedicated to taking the guesswork out of the equation by providing consumers with a reliable, data-driven platform to identify reputable hospitals in their area.
