    President Biden during remarks on the 11th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on Tuesday announced CMS is extending a special enrollment period for health plans sold on the ACA's federal exchanges from May 15 until Aug. 15, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Maryland, Ohio, and South Dakota.

    • Kentucky: Humana on Monday announced its CFO Brian Kane will step down from his role on June 1 to pursue broader career goals. Kane has served as Humana's CFO since 2014 and will stay on as an advisor to the company through the end of the year. Susan Diamond, president of Humana's home business, will serve as interim CFO until a replacement if found (Broughton/Dabaie, Wall Street Journal, 3/22; Haefner, Becker's Payer Issues, 3/22).
    • South Dakota: Sanford Health on Friday announced it has received a $300 million gift from Denny Sanford to help build a virtual hospital and expand Sanford's sports complex in Sioux Falls, among other initiatives. With the donation, Sanford has given the health system a total of more than $1 billion (Paavola, Becker's Hospital Review, 3/19).
