Harnessing Interoperability for Strategic Benefit

15 Minute Read

Interoperability is often viewed as a top-down mandate rather than a business opportunity. Government agencies have historically led the way on interoperability by incentivizing providers to advance data-sharing through legislation and financial penalties. Compliance is often the primary driver behind how interoperability initiatives are perceived and prioritized.

Regulation should be viewed as a mere first step. Greater interoperability can provide an array of long-term strategic benefits, from better care coordination to more efficient business operations. Health care leaders must be actively thinking about both meeting compliance requirements and innovatively using data to advance their strategy.
