A primer for staff new to PI

In the years since CMS's EHR Incentive Programs, or meaningful use (MU, now Promoting Interoperability or PI), began, many IT leaders have experienced staff turnover or reassignment for those who support their MU/PI initiatives.

For staff less familiar with MU/PI, there is a steep learning curve. Getting up to speed on the program’s history, current requirements, and challenges is difficult, but without a firm background and understanding of the program, staff responsible for MU/PI could risk a costly misstep that could equate to hefty financial penalties.

We note that CMS may evolve MU/PI program requirements with additional rulemaking subsequent to the publication of this resource.
