Amid this year’s flu epidemic, providers are working overtime to vaccinate as many individuals as possible and treat those who are ill.
Earlier this season, HealthPartners took an innovative approach to vaccination: a drive-thru flu shot clinic. This is one of several convenient care models health systems are using to expand primary care capacity and position against new competitors.
How it works
HealthPartners’ drive-thru flu shot clinic allows patients to receive a quick and convenient flu shot without an appointment—or even stepping out of their car. Patients pull into the clinic parking lot and complete registration information via an iPad. They then drive to a tent for a quick RN assessment, and pull up to another tent to receive their shot—all without leaving the car.
What else could we do in a drive-thru? Or via phone or e-visits? For other innovative models that organizations are trying, such as hybrid worksite clinics or urgent/chronic care clinics, please see our Planning Guide for Primary Care Support Networks.
