Although doctors have the benefit of time to prepare patients for elective surgeries, patients often arrive with inaccurate expectations on the day of their procedure. This is an important issue to fix because misaligned expectations don’t just tarnish the patient experience—they also impact clinical outcomes.

Proactively setting realistic expectations is critical for delivering a quality-driven patient experience. To that end, this study includes four tactics that will help organisations increase transparency and support surgical teams in setting patient expectations across the surgical pathway.
