About the list

To create the list, TIME partnered with Statista to combine the quality of their impact with the scale of their economic reach using net impact data from The Upright Project. The Upright Project's quantitative Net Impact Model includes data from over 300 million scientific articles as well as several public statistical databases.

To be eligible for the list, companies had to meet an annual revenue threshold of at least $250 million, demonstrate an overall positive net impact across all dimensions (Environment, Health, Society, and Knowledge) in the Net Impact Model, and have sufficient data coverage within the model to ensure a reliable assessment.

Each company's ranking was evaluated using two primary dimensions:

• Net impact sum: This determines how efficiently a company creates value relative to the resources it uses and the negative impact it causes. (70% weight)
• Sustainable development goals (SDG) alignment: This component evaluates how closely a company aligns with the United Nations' SDG, which represent a global consensus on the world's most pressing challenges (30% weight)

Overall, TIME named 500 companies to its "World's Most Impactful Companies" list for 2026.
