The velocity of clinical innovation in healthcare today is unprecedented and challenges legacy tools and approaches to product adoption. There will be 10,000 new genetic diagnostic tests on the market in the 18-24 months it takes the AMA to assign a CPT code, not to mention the 300 AI algorithms that will be approved in that same time frame. Additionally, the coming era of medical innovation will not be defined by standardization and scale, but rather by our ability to deliver what we are calling bespoke care. As futuristic as new products are, the true fiction is that we will be able to democratize access to these products without significant industry-wide change. This discussion will examine the promise of bespoke care, what stands in its path, and examples of the types of bold thinking and pilots necessary to make these products available to eligible patients.
