Advisory Board Table Talk Deep Dive: The decisions you must make about healthcare digital experience

Presented by John League, Advisory, Board, Managing Director of Digital Health and Transformation

Access and convenience are the standard by which all organizations — including healthcare organizations — are being judged. But all too often investment decisions are made about technology rather than experience. Explore the choices that this emerging standard gives healthcare about everything from AI, to experimentation, to telehealth, to ROI, to relationships with vendors.

Key takeaways:

  • Steve Jobs was right: start with the customer experience and work backwards to the technology.
  • You don’t need a stand-alone AI strategy.
  • Most healthcare organizations need an incremental innovation approach.

Advisory Board Table Talk Deep Dive: Unpacking the intersection of innovation and accessibility as we enter a new era of healthcare

Presented by Solomon Banjo, Advisory Board, Managing Director, Life Sciences Research

The velocity of clinical innovation in healthcare today is unprecedented and challenges legacy tools and approaches to product adoption. There will be 10,000 new genetic diagnostic tests on the market in the 18-24 months it takes the AMA to assign a CPT code, not to mention the 300 AI algorithms that will be approved in that same time frame. And that’s assuming that the pace of innovation does not increase. Additionally, the coming era of medical innovation will not be defined by standardization and scale, but rather by our ability to deliver what we are calling bespoke care. As futuristic as new products are, the true fiction is that we will be able to democratize access to these products without significant industry-wide change. This discussion will examine the promise of bespoke care, what stands in its path, and examples of the types of bold thinking and pilots necessary to make these products available to eligible patients.

Key takeaways:

  • The confluence of technological, mathematical, and scientific breakthroughs has ushered in an era of clinical care across therapeutic areas that will require specific new competencies and potentially even new roles from stakeholders across healthcare .
  • The challenges standing in the way of patient access are not new to healthcare, but their urgency is heightened in an era of bespoke care that is personalized, complex to deliver, promises downstream savings for the upstream costs, and centers patient-defined ROI.
  • Weight management drugs, AI, remote patient monitoring, and cancer diagnostics offer us an opportunity to pilot new approaches that will pay dividends across multiple therapeutic areas.
