Rheumatoid arthritis: Gaps in care

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects over 1.3 million Americans. Advisory Board undertook both qualitative and quantitative research to better quantify these gaps, understand why they occur, and identify potential solutions for all stakeholders.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects over 1.3 million Americans. If patients do not receive an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan, it can lead to irreversible joint damage. While there is no cure, there are now many treatment options for patients to relieve and control their symptoms.

Despite this progress, there are still gaps in care for rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Two care gaps that patients commonly experience are delays in diagnosis and challenges with accessing medication. Advisory Board undertook both qualitative and quantitative research to better quantify these gaps, understand why they occur, and identify potential solutions for all stakeholders. Below, you'll find our research briefings discussing these care gaps.
