The pandemic generated 100,000+ tons of medical waste. Where is it all going?
In a new report, World Health Organization researchers estimated the Covid-19 response generated more than 100,000 metric tons of medical waste from PPE, syringes, and more–including enough chemical waste to fill one-third of an Olympic swimming pool. And they warn that much of the waste may not be stored safely. Advisory Board’s Miles Cottier weighs in on just how serious the problem is while offering solutions that can be embraced right now.
