Around the nation: Texas Children's Hospital to give staff raise, more vacation

Texas Children's Hospital announced it will be giving its entire staff a 2% raise and an extra week of vacation in recognition for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

  • New York: Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Monday announced that most of New York's pandemic restrictions on businesses and social settings will be lifted once 70% of the state's population is partially vaccinated. According to Cuomo, once the state hits the 70% benchmark, capacity restrictions, social distancing and disinfection protocols, and health screening requirements will be rolled back. "When we hit 70%, we will be back to life as normal," Cuomo said. "Or as normalized as you can be post-Covid" (Ferré-Sadurní, New York Times, 6/7).
  • Pennsylvania: Lehigh Valley Health Network has named John Pierro as EVP, as of May 31, and COO and Liv Vesely as SVP and chief philanthropy officer, as of June 7. Pierro previously served as regional COO of Steward Health Care's north division. Vesely previously served as president and chief advancement officer at Jupiter Medical Center Foundation in Florida (Gooch, Becker's Hospital Review, 6/4).
  • Texas: Texas Children's Hospital announced it will give its entire staff a 2% raise and an extra week of vacation in recognition for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic. "The people who work here are our greatest strength," Linda Aldred, SVP of human resources for Texas Children's, said. "They are what set Texas Children's apart and allow us to serve our community in a big way, throughout the pandemic and beyond. This investment represents a bold first step in our journey together towards a brighter tomorrow" (Christ, Modern Healthcare, 6/4).
