The 49 US healthcare leaders on Forbes' 'World Billionaires List' for 2026


Forbes recently released its 2026 "World's Billionaires List," which includes 49 U.S. billionaires who made their fortunes in the healthcare industry.

The wealthiest billionaires in the world

According to Forbes, there are currently a record 3,428 billionaires on this year's list — 400 more than last year. They are also richer than ever, with a collective net worth of $20.1 trillion — $4 trillion more than last year.

The United States has the highest number of billionaires with 989, including 15 out of the top 20. China, including Hong Kong, has the next highest number with 610, and India has the third highest with 229.

As of March 1, the top five wealthiest billionaires in the world were:

1. Elon Musk, who cofounded seven companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI ($839 billion)

2. Larry Page, cofounder and board member of Alphabet, the parent company of Google ($257 billion)

3. Sergey Brin, cofounder and board member of Alphabet, the parent company of Google ($237 billion)

4. Jeff Bezos, chair and founder of Amazon ($224 billion)

5. Mark Zuckerburg, cofounder of Meta Platforms ($222 billion)

Forbes divided its list of billionaires into several categories, including industry and country. The billionaires from the United States in the healthcare industry were:

268. Carl Cook, current CEO of medical device manufacturer Cook Group ($11.7 billion)

271. Robert Duggan, co-CEO of Summit Therapeutics ($11.6 billion)

279. Charlie Mills, chair of medical supplies company Medline ($11.4 billion)

308. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a physician and inventor of the blockbuster cancer drug Abraxane ($10.5 billion)

415. John Brown, former chair of medical device and software company Stryker Corp. ($8.5 billion)

415. Ronda Stryker, current director of Stryker Corp. ($8.5 billion)

498. Li Ge, chair and CEO of Wuxi Apptec, which provides research and clinical trial services to biotech and pharmaceutical industries worldwide ($7.6 billion)

694. Reinhold Schmieding, founder of Arthrex, an orthopedic surgical tools company ($6 billion)

730. Andy Mills, director and former president of Medline ($5.7 billion)

1251. Keith Dunleavy & family, founder of Inovalon, a cloud-based software and healthcare analytics firm ($3.4 billion)

1440. Wayne Rothbaum, founder of investment firm Quogue Capital and successful biotech investor ($2.9 billion)

1504. Leonard Schleifer, cofounder and CEO of drugmaker Regeneron ($2.8 billion)

1611. David Dean Halbert, who built the diagnostics firm Caris Life Sciences ($2.6 billion)

1755. Jason Murray, cofounder, chair, and CEO of PACS Group, which operates skilled nursing facilities ($2.4 billion)
