The 11 healthcare leaders on the 'TIME100 Next' list

TIME recently released its "TIME100 Next" list, which recognizes leaders "who are not waiting long in life to make an impact" and includes several people who have made a difference in healthcare.

About the list

The TIME100 Next list, which is now in its fifth year, was created to recognize leaders "who are not waiting long in life to make an impact" and are "not following the traditional power structures and pathways that have determined what influence looked like in the past."

This year, individuals were recognized in five different categories:

  • Artists
  • Phenoms
  • Advocates
  • Leaders
  •  Innovators

The healthcare leaders on the TIME100 Next

The TIME100 Next list includes several individuals, listed in alphabetical order below, who have impacted healthcare:

  • Iman Abuzeid, who cofounded Incredible Health, a platform that uses artificial intelligence to help hospitals find and recruit nurses with backgrounds that match open positions, streamlining the hiring process.
  • Crystal Asige, a Kenyan senator who is visually impaired and has helped pass bills to assist people with disabilities, including a tax break for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities.
  • Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D), who has helped legalize medical marijuana and expand Medicaid to cover vision and dental care in the state.
  • Mehreen Datoo, a clinical lecturer and specialty trainee doctor of infectious diseases and microbiology at Oxford University whose work was central to the clinical development of R21/Matrix-M, a new malaria vaccine.
  • Molly Duane, a lawyer with the Center for Reproductive Rights who is working to challenge abortion bans across the country and highlight the harm they have caused patients.
  • Abigail Echo-Hawk, EVP of the Seattle Indian Health Board who helped get 98% of American Indians and Alaska Natives in King County vaccinated for COVID-19.
  • Jason Glaser, a filmmaker who founded the La Isla Network, which advances global research and advocacy about the human consequences of extreme heat.
  • Nick Green, CEO of Thrive Market, which is working to expand access to affordable and healthy foods in communities across the country.
  • Michelle Morse, a physician who has worked with Partners in Health in Haiti and Rwanda, cofounded EqualHealth, and is New York City's first CMO.
  •  Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, who represents the U.S. government before the Supreme Court, including in the case of Moyle v. United States, in which she advocated for a woman's right to receive emergency medical care.
  • Kaitlyn Sadtler, chief of NIH's Section on Immunoengineering who launched a major serologic survey that identified almost 17 million undiagnosed SARS-COV-2 infections in the United States.
