TIME's 'Most Influential People' list includes 10 people who have impacted healthcare


TIME  last week released its "100 Most Influential People" list, which includes several people who have impacted healthcare.

The list

This year, TIME recognized people in six categories:

  • Artists
  • Innovators
  • Titans
  • Leaders
  • Icons
  • Pioneers

The list included individuals, listed in alphabetical order below, who have affected healthcare, including:

  • Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the majority opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade and rolled back the right to abortion.
  • Sam Altman, who co-founded  OpenAI, which went on to develop the AI chatbot, ChatGPT.
  • President Joe Biden, who worked to cap annual drug costs for Medicare holders, invested billions of dollars to combat climate change, and helped pass the first gun control law in a generation, according to TIME senior correspondent Brian Bennett.
  • Karen Lynch, president and CEO of  CVS Health, who spearheaded efforts to administer COVID-19 vaccines at CVS pharmacies and more than 40,000 long-term care facilities. She also led a growing movement to reduce the cost of women's health products, according to Kenneth Frazier, chair of health assurance initiatives at  General Catalyst and former CEO of  Merck.
  • Margaret Mitchell, chief AI ethics scientist at  Hugging Face, an open-source AI platform where independent researchers can create and launch new AI tools.
  • Dimie Ogoina, who helped document and publish the potential for Mpox to spread via sexual transmission and helped develop strategies for preventing and controlling outbreaks of the disease.
  • Sam Rivera, executive director of  OnPoint NYC, which provides drug users with support, clean needles, and connections to care, including providing medically supervised injections spaces in New York City.
  • Monica Simpson, executive director of  SisterSong, an advocacy organization aimed at protecting reproductive rights.
  • Ozlem Tureci and Ugur Sahin, co-founders of  BioNTech, who helped pioneer mRNA vaccines to fight COVID-19.
