Around the nation: Trump urges Americans to get vaccinated against Covid-19

Former President Donald Trump and former first lady Melania Trump were administered Covid-19 vaccines at the White House in January, sources reportedly have told multiple news outlets, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from the District of Columbia, Michigan, and Texas.

  • District of Columbia: Former President Donald Trump and former first lady Melania Trump were administered Covid-19 vaccines at the White House in January, sources reportedly have told multiple news outlets. However, it remains unclear which vaccine the former president and first lady received and whether they received both doses of the vaccine. At the Conservative Political Action Conference on Sunday, Trump urged attendees to get vaccinated against Covid-19, saying, "everybody go get your shot" (Treene, Axios, 3/1; Jiang, CBS News, 3/2; Acosta/Kelly, CNN, 3/1).
  • Michigan: Munsing Memorial Hospital has named Sandra McGovern as its new CEO and Kevin Carlson as its new CFO. McGovern previously served as CNO of Bell Hospital, and Carlson has previously served in various financial leadership positions at Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency, Upper Peninsula Health Plan, and Bay Community College (Gooch, Becker's Hospital Review, 2/26).
  • Texas: Houston is the first city in the United States to record cases of every major new variant of the novel coronavirus, according to a study conducted by team of experts at Houston Methodist Hospital. James Musser, who led the team, said, "The numbers of the major variants we have identified in our large sequencing study are disquieting. The genome data indicate[s] that these important variants are now geographically widely distributed in the Houston metropolitan region" (Downen/Garcia, Houston Chronicle, 3/1).
