Featured: Resources from City of Hope

Recently, City of Hope National Medical Center developed a three-step process to expand palliative care for lung cancer patients:

    • A nurse assesses patient and caregiver quality of life using surveys and interviews, and completes a summary using a standardized one-page document
    • The nurse presents the summary to a multidisciplinary committee, which prioritizes patient needs and develops next steps
    • The nurse provides tailored patient education and the appropriate care team members follow up with each patient

Impressively, patients receiving the intervention had six months increased survival and saw decreased distress, increased quality of life, and fewer hospital admissions and urgent care visits. Keep reading to get key resources from the program.
