Q&A: How to build a better health system for LGBT patients and staff
We'll be speaking with Shannon Whittington to discuss how Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) equipped their staff to provide more robust service offerings to the LGBT patient population. Since launching their post-operative gender affirmation program in March 2016, VNSNY has served over 350 patients, and has been recognized by SAGECare with a Platinum level LGBT cultural competency credential. Their post-operative gender affirmation patients have a significantly lower rehospitalization rates (estimated 4.9%) than the CMS benchmark (15.6%).
To achieve these results, VNSNY had to train their staff to deliver more culturally competent care to one of the most marginalized populations: transgender patients. Shannon has traveled the country speaking to health systems about how to build out their service offerings for LGBT patients, particularly those undergoing gender affirmation surgery. During this webconference, she'll share what she's learned over the past few years, and answer your burning questions about how you can make your workplace and health system more inclusive for LGBT patients and employees.
