Playbook for Maximizing Performance in MACRA

Nine tips to increase your score in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)

Use this playbook to help increase your score in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).

In April 2015, the Medicare Access and CHIP Re-Authorization Act (MACRA) repealed and replaced the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) with the Quality Payment Program (QPP), a new way to pay physicians and other clinicians under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS).

In the QPP, most groups will fall into the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and are required to report on a number of categories related to medical group performance. CMS will score each group based on this reporting and adjust future payments according to performance. This playbook is designed to help medical groups achieve the highest possible score (and payment) in MIPS.

Each group has unique circumstances that can impact their MIPS score so we’ve provided guidance on when and how to use the tips provided.
