National-level specialist consolidation: Will radiologists be next?

Over the past few years there’s been an uptick in physician aggregation into larger medical groups and practice management organizations, particularly within specialist practices. Moss Adams LLP has reported that mergers, acquisitions, and private equity investments in specialty medical groups doubled between 2008 and 2012.

Hospital-based specialists are seeing the highest rates of national-level consolidation, but we wonder: are radiologists the next group to follow suit?
