Four opportunities for elevating geriatric services


In light of an aging, increasingly complex population and the onset of new performance risks tied to Medicare payment, hospital and health system planners are considering whether to create new programs and services for their Medicare-age populations. Our research reveals a range of innovations in care coordination, acute care and outpatient management. Some organizations are going so far as to create “seniors service lines” in order to focus quality improvement efforts and better manage chronic conditions for this challenging population beyond the inpatient setting.
