Focus on What You Can Do

How can you instill frontline accountability when you have a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) in place? While a CBA may complicate your efforts, there's still a lot you can move forward on, including:

  • Staff communication. Improve transparency around performance tracking efforts and communicate with frontline staff about how their individual unit or department is doing on key performance goals.
  • Staff collaboration. Discuss promising improvement opportunities with your staff—and work with them to execute those initiatives.
  • Staff investment. Increase education and training for staff who are proving critical to improvement efforts or pair them with peer coaches.
