Short-Term Flexibility Laden with Potential Risk

CMS and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology announced that certain providers have the ability to attest to a different set of meaningful use objectives and measures this year. This final rule changes the certified EHR technology providers can use in 2014; it reverses the mandatory upgrade requirement in the event of vendor certification, installation, and implementation delays.

In this research brief, we summarize the options and explain that while the policy may allow a short-term solution to your meaningful use plan this year, providers must carefully consider their course of action to avoid potential risks.
