Low-risk patients are a paradox. You don’t want a lot of encounters with these patients, but you still need to improve their health and be there when they need you. And research has shown that the industry’s historical approach to these patients—annual physicals—are clinically unnecessary.
So what else is there? Mainly, you need to provide timely access to evidence-based preventative care. We’ve also seen organizations turning to patient portals to offer convenient options such as online scheduling and the ability to email a physician.
Given the limited care needs of this population, organizations are experimenting with innovative patient engagement technologies such as mobile apps and online wellness games to promote healthy behaviors and drive loyalty.
