Managing the Clinical Knowledge Life Cycle

An essential responsibility of every health care provider organisation

Modern EMR implementations contain large amounts of complex medical knowledge encoded in multiple forms of clinical decision support (CDS) such as order sets, protocols, medication prescribing guidance, reminders, and others. Health care organisations must ensure that these growing bodies of encoded knowledge are kept current and managed responsibly. Doing so is challenging because of the rapid pace of scientific discovery and evolving standards of care. IT leaders must formulate an appropriate approach to, and system for, knowledge management in order to accomplish this.
