Doctor Engagement for the EMR Journey

To meet the requirements of modern documentation, payment, and communication processes, health care provider organisations globally are adopting integrated electronic medical records (EMRs). Ultimately, doctors are one of the most important end users of these systems. So, it should come as no surprise that it is essential that doctors play leadership and participatory roles in all phases of EMR implementation programmes.

Failure to involve doctors results in lack of doctor buy-in to the selection process, maladaptive system design and configuration, and poor system adoption.

Our research note explores the three keys to engaging rank-and-file clinicians effectively in the EMR initiative. Additionally, we outline the primary considerations for doctor involvement at each stage of the EMR journey, from conceptualisation through system selection, implementation and go-live, to ongoing operations and system optimisation.
