About Us

For more than three decades, the Advisory Board has been helping health care get better.

The Advisory Board is a global research, technology, and consulting firm helping hospital and health system leaders improve the quality and efficiency of patient care. We provide strategic guidance, actionable insights, and comprehensive implementation and management services.

Through our membership model, we collaborate with executives and their teams to find and implement the best solutions to their toughest challenges. We appreciate the trust that our members place in us, and we seek to serve them with generosity—and beyond expectation—in all that we do.

Our Expertise

We combine the analytical, clinical, managerial, and technological expertise of our staff with insights from over 100,000 interviews with executives, academics, policy makers, and consultants from our global network to find solutions to our members’ most pressing challenges.

From our experts across the globe to the leadership team driving corporate strategy, our staff embodies the principles that have guided the Advisory Board since its inception.

Our Members

We establish long-term relationships with our members, maintaining a permanent network of the world’s preeminent hospitals and health systems and benefiting each from the others’ experiences over time. We aim to serve members so fully that there is little question of long-term commitment.

Our relationships with our members are not simply commercial; we aim to give more than we receive, which means we put members’ best interests first and ensure that every service provides a demonstrable return. We want every member to feel like an owner of our firm, able to call on our staff without limit.

Our Work

The Advisory Board finds, studies, and reports on the most intelligent new insights and ideas from the frontiers of health care. We identify best practices through rigorous analysis, asking whether there is evidence of improved outcomes or efficiency? Any superior results? Any reduced costs? Is there evidence that these results will be sustainable across time? We separate the best ideas from those not worth member time and investment.

Since our founding more than 30 years ago, the Advisory Board’s work has grown to include

  • Research: Memberships offering strategic guidance and actionable insights
    • 140,000+ health care leaders served
  • Technology: Global peer collaboratives powered by web-based analytics platforms
    • $500 million+ in realised value per year
  • Consulting: Seasoned, hands-on support and practice management services
    • 1,150+ engagements completed

Our Research Programs

Advisory Board International serves health care leaders through separate memberships, including:

While some themes and topics are shared by the entire leadership team, each program views health care’s challenges and opportunities through a different lens.

Dedicated teams of consultants and analysts study the “up at night” issues of leaders served by each program. These teams research and publish a series of strategy and best practice reports and toolkits tailored to each constituency. We host annual meetings around the world for each membership group to discuss recent findings and to set the agenda for future study. The agenda and services for every program are entirely directed by our member institutions.
