Around the nation: Ochsner Health executive joins Walmart

Daily Briefing

Walmart has hired Ochsner Health executive David Carmouche to pilot its restructured care organization, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Arkansas, California, and Texas.

    • Arkansas: Walmart announced that Ochsner Health executive David Carmouche has been hired to lead its care organization as the company restructures its health care services. As the president of Ochsner Health, Carmouche in 2018 coordinated an agreement between Ochsner Health and Walmart that covered roughly 6,600 Walmart and Sam's Club employees in Louisiana. The retailer has been expanding its health care offerings and opening primary care clinics inside stores that provide customers with a wide range of services. (Kacik, Modern Healthcare, 11/3)
    • California: San Francisco city health officials this week announced plans to extend the local mandate that requires anyone over the age of 12 to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination to enter public indoor spaces to children ages 5 to 11 as well. According to Susan Philip, a San Francisco health officer, the requirement will not go into effect for at least two months. "We definitely want to wait and make sure children have an opportunity to get vaccinated, so that will happen no sooner than about eight weeks after the vaccine is available for kids," Philip said. • Texas: Southwestern Health Resources last week announced that two new executives would be joining the organization. Thomas Marlow, former VP of software applications at Lehigh Valley Health Network, was appointed CIO, and Shashi Vangala, who has held leadership roles in data and analytics at multiple organizations throughout his 20-year career, was appointed chief data and value creation officer.
