Around the nation: 7th grader donates $15K to St. Jude

    Diesel Pippert, a student at Western Reserve Local Schools in Ohio, made the money at the Huron County Fair's large animal sale, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

    • Indiana: Beacon Children's Hospital raised $130,000 in donations from the 2019 Four Winds Golf Invitational on Tuesday to purchase eye imaging equipment made for babies. Beacon officials said the equipment will allow them to provide specialized care to younger patients close to home. "We're the only pediatric hospital in northern Indiana," said Larry Tracy, president of Beacon. "We want to keep these kids as close to home as possible" (WSBT, 8/20).
    • Ohio: Seventh grade student Diesel Pippert has donated $15,000 in livestock fair winnings to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Pippert, a student at Western Reserve Local Schools, made the money at the Huron County Fair's large animal sale. Western Reserve Local Schools in a Facebook post said Pippert "should be an example to us all," adding that the donation "will help to find cures for young children and save lives" (Kaplan, Fox News, 8/20; Fox 59, 8/19).
    • Pennsylvania: Allegheny Health Network will acquire Grove City Medical Center, the health system announced Monday. The 90-bed hospital has a level IV trauma center, ICU, and multiple outpatient centers. Grove City Medical Center will be Allegheny's ninth hospital (Gough, Pittsburgh Business Times/The Business Journals, 8/19).
