Last week, Simone and Shari Cumberbatch gave birth on July 3, which happened to be their father's 70th birthday, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Montana, New York, and Washington.
- Montana: HHS has granted $520,000 to community health centers in Montana to help offset the costs of implementing health information technologies, such as EHRs and telehealth services. In Congress, Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) has introduced a bill that will increase annual funding for community health centers over the next five years (Drees, Becker's Health IT & CIO Report, 7/8).
- New York: Sisters Simone and Shari Cumberbatch both gave birth July 3 at Mercy Medical Center, which happened to be their father's 70th birthday. Simone had scheduled a caesarian section for that day, while Shari had been induced and went into labor earlier than her doctors expected (Pelletiere, "Good Morning America," ABC, 7/8).
- Washington: Doctors at UW Medicine in June successfully performed a liver transplant to cure a patient with bile duct cancer. The transplant is rare, with fewer than 500 having been performed in the United States, according to Kiran Bambha, a liver transplant specialist at UW Medicine (Bean, Becker's Clinical Leadership & Infection Control, 7/8).
