Around the nation: Red Cross offers Dunkin' gift cards to blood donors

Daily Briefing

The American Red Cross is offering $5 gift cards to Dunkin' to individuals in six states who donate blood, in an effort to increase donations amid a severe shortage, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Florida, Idaho, and Washington, D.C.

    • Florida: Indian River Medical Center and Martin Health System have joined the Cleveland Clinic health system. Under the agreements, the Clinic committed to investing $500 million over five years in Martin Health System and $250 million over 10 years in Indian River Medical Center (Ellison, Becker's Hospital Review, 1/3).
    • Idaho: The first baby born in 2019 in Boise, Idaho, was born at 4:14 a.m. on New Year's Day to Baylee Swift, a labor and delivery nurse at Saint Alphonsus. While working the night shift on Dec. 31, Swift began experiencing labor pains and gave birth to her daughter, Oaklee, the next morning—a week before the baby was due (Blanchard, Idaho Statesman, 1/2).
    • Washington, D.C.: The American Red Cross is offering $5 gift cards to Dunkin' to individuals in six states who donate blood in an effort to increase donations amid a severe shortage. Donors in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and parts of New York will receive the gift card when they donate blood in January (Bean, Becker's Hospital Review, 1/3).
