Around the nation: Anthem closes acquisition of Aspire Health for undisclosed amount

Daily Briefing

Aspire Health is the largest non-hospice, palliative care provider in the country, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Indiana, New York, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

    • Indiana/Tennessee: Anthem has closed its acquisition of palliative care services provider Aspire Health for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition was announced in May and makes Anthem the owner of the largest non-hospice, palliative care provider in the country (Haefner, Becker's Hospital Review, 6/18).

    • New York: St. Barnabas Hospital on June 6 celebrated the 35th anniversary of its program to help Filipino nurses immigrate to the United States and work at the hospital. In 1982 and 1983, the hospital recruited and trained prospective nurses—many of whom still work at the hospital today—from the Philippines. Robert Church, chief nursing officer, said, "Can you imagine how much courage it took for these nurses, all in their early 20s, to leave their families and come to the Bronx?" He added, "And can you believe the commitment they have given to us at St. Barnabas Hospital by choosing to work here for 35 years?" (Rocchio, Bronx Times, 6/19).

    • North Carolina: Northern Hospital has named Chris Lumsden CEO. He'll start in the role July 23. Lumsden succeeds Ned Hill, who left earlier this year to become CEO of Mesa Regional Hospital in Nevada (Seaman, Triad Business Journal, 6/18).
