Around the nation: Chicago Bears, NFL Foundation donate $20K to Shriners Hospital for Children-Chicago

    After the signing ceremony, Bears players spent time with children at the hospital playing ping-pong and foosball, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Illinois, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin.

    • Illinois: The Chicago Bears and the NFL Foundation on Thursday, donated $20,000 to Shriners Hospital for Children-Chicago. The grant will be used to build new therapy and place spaces at the hospital and buy equipment for play and rehabilitation. After a ceremony during which the hospital was presented with the check, a group of Bears players played games like foosball and ping-pong with some of the children at the hospital (Kenney, Chicago Sun-Times, 6/14).

    • Massachusetts: A police procession escorted a Taunton officer's terminally ill 15-month-old son home from Children's Hospital in Boston after doctors determined there was nothing more they could do to fix his severe form of mitochondrial disease. The disease—which doctors discovered in February—led to boy, Bryce Derosier, having a seizure, a coma, and ultimately a damaged liver could not be repaired (MSNewsNow, 6/15).

    • Wisconsin: Beaver Dam Community Hospitals has agreed to become part of Marshfield Clinic Health System. Marshfield Clinic owned one community hospital, and is now set to own six, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It also plans to build a small hospital in in Minocqua (Boulton, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 6/12).
