CVS Health on Wednesday announced that Aetna President Karen Lynch and CFO Shawn Guertin, along with some other executives, would work at the combined company if a proposed merger between the two companies is approved, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Connecticut, Oklahoma, and Rhode Island.
- Connecticut: Milford Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital on Wednesday announced that they intend to merge. The proposed merger is in its early stages and will be subject to approval by various state and federal regulatory agencies (Cuda/Burgeson, Connecticut Post, 6/6).
- Oklahoma: Doctors at SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital say the number of patients treated for poisonous snake bites at the hospital over the past two months is nearly double the number of all such cases in 2017. According to doctors, 12 patients have been treated at the hospital for snake bites so far this year, and while the providers aren't entirely sure what's causing the rise, they suggested it might be related to a recent increase in rain and heat in the area (Smith, KFOR, 6/6).
- Rhode Island: CVS Health on Wednesday announced that Aetna President Karen Lynch and CFO Shawn Guertin, along with some other executives, would work at the combined company if a proposed merger between the two companies receives state and federal approval. Lynch would serve as president of the Aetna business unit, while Guertin would become EVP and CFO of CVS, CVS said (Livingston, Modern Healthcare, 6/6; Japsen, Forbes, 6/6).
