Mayo Clinic and NBC have teamed up to create "Health + Happiness," a new TV show on personal health, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Louisiana, Minnesota, and Virginia.
- Louisiana: Teche Regional Medical Center has selected Aphreikah DuHaney-West's to serve as the organization's permanent CEO. DuHaney-West, who had been serving as interim CEO since December 2017, previously worked as COO of Mercy Regional Medical Center and Acadian Medical Center, as well as CNO of Havasu Regional Medical Center in Arizona and Logan Regional Medical Center in Virginia (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 4/9).
- Minnesota: Mayo Clinic and NBC have launched "Health + Happiness," a new TV show on personal health. The show, which premiered on April 7, will air every Saturday morning, hosted by NBC's Joy Bauer and Mayo Clinic News Network's Vivien Williams. According to Pritish Tosh, the medical editor for the show and an infectious disease expert at the Clinic, the show aims to be a "reliable source of health information for everyone" (Rappleye, Becker's Hospital Review, 4/9; Halliwell, Post Bulletin, 4/9; Errebhi, KTTC, 4/6).
- Virginia: The Roanoke City Jail has opened a new unit designed to provide tailored attention to male inmates with mental health conditions. The new unit includes designated areas for inmates with particular conditions, such as those at risk of death by suicide. According to Sheriff Tim Allen, while the jail does not aim to serve as a complete treatment center for individuals with mental health conditions, the new unit will be able to give eligible inmates better services than they had access to before. Allen said he hopes to establish a similar unit for female inmates (AP/Sacramento Bee, 4/10).

Programs aimed at promoting healthy habits among employees are likely to lead to improved employee engagement and productivity—but they're unlikely to reduce the total cost of care. To do that, you'll need to take a population health approach.
