- Alabama: Infirmary Health has opened a new $25 million medical plaza in Saraland. The plaza houses an image clinic and Infirmary Health's Diagnostic and Medical clinic. Infirmary also has approval to open a freestanding ED at the facility (van der Bijl, Birmingham Business Journal, 12/11).
- Maryland/North Carolina: Johns Hopkins Health System has tapped Duke University Hospital President Kevin Sowers to serve as Hopkins' next president. Sowers will succeed Ronald Peterson, who previously announced plans to retire at the end of the year. Sowers will start at Hopkins on Feb. 1 (Barr, Modern Healthcare, 12/11).
- Massachusetts: Boston Bruins players this holiday season brought gifts to about 600 kids at six Boston children's hospitals. The gifts came from donations by the players, coaches, and the Boston Bruins Foundation. Matthew O'Brien, age 10, said, "It meant everything to have the Bruins visit me because they're just my favorite hockey team" (CBS Boston, 12/11).
