Around the nation: Uber Health to provide medical transport to some Medicare beneficiaries in California

Daily Briefing

The company in a partnership with Alignment Healthcare will provide nonemergency medical transportation to selected pickup and drop-off points to Alignment plan members, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from California and Utah.

    • California: Stanford Health Care this week launched telehealth services in its pediatric ED to enable the system's pediatric specialists to virtually provide care for patients at other facilities, like Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH). LPHC does not have an ED, so specialists at Stanford Hospital in the past would walk from LPCH to the pediatric ED at Stanford Hospital to treat patients. With the new services, pediatric specialists at other Stanford Health facilities will be able to provide care to patients virtually from their remote locations (Drees, Becker's Hospital Review, 12/3).
    • California: Uber Health and Medicare Advantage insurer Alignment Healthcare this week announced a partnership to provide nonemergency medical transportation options for Alignment Healthcare plan members. Alignment Healthcare will use Uber Health to pick up and drop-off plan members at plan-approved locations in California. The program is slated to launch next year (Drees, Becker's Hospital Review, 12/3).
    • Utah: Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital, University of Utah Health, and Intermountain Precision Genomics are launching a pediatric center for personalized medicine. Clinicians at the center will use precision genomics to treat and discover a variety of genetic diseases. The center will largely focus on gene therapies as well as therapeutics, stem cell, immunologic and regenerative medicine (Eddy, HealthcareITNews, 11/27).
