The program will function as a "virtual primary care physician," which will allow it to handle more complex conditions, such as behavioral health, diabetes, and urgent care, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from California, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
- California: The AIDS Memorial Quilt, a network of more than 50,000 3-foot-by-6-foot patches memorializing people who have died of AIDS, is moving from the headquarters of the NAMES Project Foundation in Atlanta to the National AIDS Memorial in San Francisco. The quilt, which now contains the names of more than 105,000 individuals, had its first patches made in San Francisco in 1987 (Messman, New York Times, 11/20).
- Florida: University Hospital & Medical Center named Ben Harris as CEO. Harris previously served as COO at Medical City Las Colinas and as VP of business development for Medical City Plano, both in Texas (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 11/20).
- Colorado/Minnesota/Wisconsin: Walmart on Tuesday announced that starting Jan. 1, 2020, it will pilot a telehealth program for its more than 21,000 employees in Colorado, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Under the program, plan members will pay $4 for a virtual visit, down from $49 in the past. The program will function as a "virtual primary care physician," enabling it to handle more complex conditions, such as behavioral health, diabetes, and urgent care. The pilot will run in collaboration with Doctor On Demand and UnitedHealth Group's HealthScope Benefits.
