- Indiana: The NeuroDiagnostic Institute (NDI) will replace LaRue D. Carter Memorial Hospital as Central Indiana's psychiatric hospital. The new $118 million facility will operate as the focal diagnostic center for Indiana's six mental health facilities, which will all share the same EHR system. NDI will be the main site for psychiatric patients with complicated diagnoses (Rudavsky, Indianapolis Star, 3/14).
- Massachusetts: Harvard University just received $100 million from health care hedge fund Deerfield Management as part of a new drug research partnership. The funds will allow the organizations to establish and jointly operate Lab1636, a company that will "offer sustained support to ensure breakthrough innovations," according to Isaac Kohlberg, senior associate provost and chief technology development officer at Harvard (Paavola, Becker’s Hospital Review, 3/14).
- Minnesota: The Minnesota House on Thursday passed a bill that would ban vaping in the same places that tobacco smoking is banned under the Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act. The bill would prohibit the use of e-cigarettes and other vaping devices in most public buildings, workplaces, and restaurants in the state, as well as on public transportation. State Rep. Laurie Halverson (D), chief author of the bill, said she hopes the bill will allow the state to crack down on the "epidemic of youth smoking" (Karnowski, Sacramento Bee, 3/14).
