    Apple said it is working to make its Health Records iPhone feature available to veterans receiving care through the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). According to Apple, the initiative will "for the first time" allow veterans "to securely view their aggregated health records directly in the Health app on their iPhone." Apple said the health records will include data on veterans':

    • Allergies;
    • Immunizations;
    • Laboratory results;
    • Medical conditions;
    • Medications;
    • Procedures;
    • Vital signs.

    Veterans' health records will be updated and uploaded to their iPhones within 24 hours of visiting a VHA or other participating facility, MedCity News reports.

    Apple said all data stored in the Health Records feature will be "encrypted and protected with the user's iPhone passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID."

    According to MedCity News, the Health Records iPhone feature should be available to veterans receiving care at VHA and participating institutions beginning this summer.

    Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company has "great admiration for veterans, and [is] proud to bring a solution like Health Records on iPhone to the veteran community." He added, "It's truly an honor to contribute to the improved health care of America's heroes" (Farr, CNBC, 2/11; Truong, MedCity News, 2/12; Apple release, 2/11).
