The health system announced it is unifying its two-pronged organization structure and separating the titles of president and CEO, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Florida, Missouri, and New York.
- Florida: Florida State University's College of Music is partnering with the NICU at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to offer in-home music therapy for premature babies. The program will be available for six months after the babies are released from the hospital. Research shows that the music therapy helps premature babies eat and breathe on their own much sooner, Modern Healthcare reports (Modern Healthcare, 1/19).
- Missouri: Ascension on Tuesday announced three executives will be leaving the health system as part of a major restructuring to unify the organization's two-pronged structure. According to the release, Patricia Maryland, CEO of Ascension Healthcare, will leave after 15 years with the health system on June 30 when the Ascension Healthcare CEO role will be eliminated. Executives David Pryor and John Doyle will both be retiring from the health system before the end of the fiscal year. As part of the restructuring, Ascension President and CEO Anthony Tersigini will continue as CEO, while Joseph Impicciche will take on the newly created role of president and COO (Kacik, Modern Healthcare, 1/22; Morse, Healthcare Finance News, 1/22).
- New York: New York City's public health system, NYC Health + Hospitals, earlier this month debuted meatless Mondays in all of its 11 hospitals. The Meatless Monday campaign provides patients with options for more plant-based meals in an effort to improve individual and environmental health. On NYC Health + Hospitals' first Meatless Monday, 1,500 people chose the health system's plant-based breakfast, lunch, and dinner options (Haefner, Becker's Hospital Review, 1/18).
