Around the nation: Meet the New York doctor hailed as a CNN 'Hero of 2018'

    Rob Gore, an emergency physician at Kings County Hospital Center, was named one of CNN's top 10 "Heroes of 2018," which honors people who helped change the world, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Alabama, Missouri, and New York.

    • Alabama: UAB, along with the University of Chicago and Emory University, has received a $5.5 million grant from the National Institute on Aging. The grant will go toward researching why around 30 to 50% of the population is resilient to Alzheimer's disease (Patchen, Birmingham Business Journal, 11/5).

    • Missouri: Kevin Shrake has been named CEO of Kindred Hospital St. Louis, effective Monday. Shrake previously served as president and CEO of St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville and as CEO of a 500-bed community hospital that is part of HSHS Health System (Robbins, St. Louis Business Journal, 11/5).

    • New York: Rob Gore, an emergency physician at Kings County Hospital Center (KCHC), was named one of CNN's top 10 "Heroes of 2018," which honors people who helped change the world. Gore was honored for his work starting the Kings Against Violence Initiative, which provides anti-violence programs at KCHC, schools, and in the community (Rege, Becker's Hospital Review, 11/5).
