    Former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala is running as the Democratic candidate in Florida's 27th district, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Florida, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

    • Florida: Former HHS Secretary Donna Shalala is running as the Democratic candidate in Florida's 27th district. Shalala was HHS secretary under former President Bill Clinton and has served as president of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Miami (Bloomberg/HealthLeaders Media, 10/10; CBS4 News, 10/9).

    • Illinois: Walgreens Boots Alliance announced Wednesday that it will be adding at least 600 patient service centers in Walgreens stores across the country as part of its collaboration with LabCorp. Currently, only 17 Walgreens locations have patient service centers (Japsen, Forbes, 10/10).

    • Illinois/Wisconsin: Advocate Aurora Health on Tuesday broke ground on a $130 million ambulatory surgery center and medical office building in Pleasant Prairie. The two buildings will be 100,000-square feet each and are slated to open in summer 2020 (Paavola, Becker's Hospital Review, 10/10).
